New Westminster tops Powell River U15 Kings at provincials

Teams finish first and second in Pool A at BC Hockey U15 Tier 3 provincial championships in Quesnel, await semi-final opponents

Powell River U15 Kings suffered their first loss at the BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships in Quesnel on Tuesday, March 19.

In a game to determine top spot in Pool A, New Westminster defeated Powell River 6-2. Kooper Kozmeniuk and Lucas Gruntman scored in the second period for the Kings, who trailed 4-0 after 20 minutes of play. Jack Webber assisted on both goals. New Westminster scored the only two goals of the third period.

New Westminster finished the round-robin with three wins and no losses. Powell River (two wins, one loss) defeated Dawson Creek and skated past Prince George before losing to New Westminster. 

Semi-final, bronze and gold medal games take place on Wednesday, March 20. Match-ups will be determined once Pool B completes its schedule later today.

Nine teams are competing for the title at West Fraser Centre in Quesnel. Powell River earned a spot in the tournament by winning the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association championship earlier this month.
