The final playoff spot in BC Hockey League’s (BCHL) Coastal Conference will be determined this weekend. Powell River Kings require two wins to make it to the postseason, and a little help from other teams.

Kings trailed Cowichan Valley Capitals by two points for eighth place in the conference heading into a game versus Alberni Valley Bulldogs on March 23. After a 3-2 overtime loss, combined with a Cowichan win over Coquitlam that same night, Powell River is now three back of the Capitals with both teams having two games remaining on their schedules.

Anthony Lucarelli and Wyatt Davis scored in Port Alberni for the Kings, who led 1-0 after the first period but trailed 2-1 following 40 minutes of play. Simone Dadiè had two assists for the Kings; Anthony Yu was credited with one helper for the visitors. Goaltender Justin Katz made 46 saves for the Kings, who were outshot 49-30.

Twenty-four hours earlier, Powell River edged Cowichan in a high-scoring game at Cowichan Community Centre.

Kings play at West Kelowna (March 29) and Vernon (March 30). Capitals host Chilliwack (March 29) and Surrey (March 30).
