Lucas Marshall has joined Powell River Kings via trade with Trail Smoke Eaters.

Powell River Kings have acquired 2004-born defenceman Lucas Marshall from Trail Smoke Eaters in exchange for forward Kailus Green. The BC Hockey League (BCHL) club made the announcement on Wednesday, January 10.

Marshall is from Newport Beach, California, and is in his second BCHL season. He has appeared in 73 games with Wenatchee Wild and the Smoke Eaters.

Marshall will be a welcome addition to the blue line as the Kings are dealing with a number of injuries. Assistant general manager Stephan Seeger Jr. expects him to fit in well with his new teammates.

"He is a defender who is going to bring speed and mobility to our D core," stated Seeger Jr. "He's very good on the blue line at finding tough shooting lanes and has a high compete level. We are very excited to add Lucas; he will acclimate to our system nicely."

Prior to the trade, Marshall scored three times and added a trio of assists in the first 29 games of the 2023/2024 season.

Marshall's father Jason was drafted ninth overall by St. Louis Blues in the 1989 National Hockey League entry draft and played professionally for nearly 20 years, including 526 NHL games for the Blues, Anaheim Ducks, Washington Capitals, Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks. During his time with the Wild he was teammates with for King and Powell River Minor Hockey product Brad Bombardir.

Green, who joined the Kings in a trade with West Kelowna Warriors in the offseason, appeared in 26 games this season, scoring two goals and helping set up six others.
