Nic Porchetta scored twice, including the game winner, in a 6-4 Powell River Kings’ road win over Nanaimo Clippers on Friday, September 30.

Marcus Dashevsky also had a pair of goals for the visitors, one at even strength late in the first period and another on a third period power play. He set up Caleb Bentham in the second period for a three point night.

Porchetta opened the scoring at 3:36 of the first period for the Kings, who led 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Nanaimo dominated the second period, outshooting Powell River 13-2 (and 45-24 overall) and scoring twice for a 3-2 lead.

Bentham and Dashevsky’s goals came just over a minute apart early in the final frame to wrestle the lead away momentarily, but the hosts tied the score at four with 2:40 remaining in the game.

Anthony Yu and Rydor Ringor combined to set up Porchetta one minute and 12 seconds later, then Yu sealed the win with an empty-net goal after Nanaimo pulled goaltender Aiden Campbell in favour of an extra attacker.

Colin MacDougall, Casey Aman (2), Karter McNarland and Jack Blanchett picked up assists for the Kings, who spoiled the home opener for Clippers' fans one week after Nanaimo did the same in Powell River.

Attendance at Frank Crane Arena was 1,469.

Kings’ goalie Liam Vanderkooi made 41 saves to earn his first BC Hockey League (BCHL) win with the Kings, who travel to Alberni Valley for a game tonight (October 1) against the Bulldogs.
