Powell River Kings swap forwards with Surrey Eagles

MOVING WEST: Forward Karter McNarland will join Powell River Kings for the 2021/2022 BC Hockey League season.

Powell River Kings have acquired forward Karter McNarland and future considerations from Surrey Eagles in exchange for forward Jacob Bonkowski. 

McNarland, who is committed to the University of Vermont (NCAA) hockey program, spent time with three junior teams during the 2020/2021 hockey season, all in the United States. He suited up for Sioux Falls Stampede (United States Hockey League), Bismarck Bobcats (North American Hockey League) and South Shore Kings (United States Premier Hockey League, National Collegiate Development Conference).

During his first season of junior hockey in 2019/2020, McNarland scored 10 goals and added 40 assists for Humboldt Broncos (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League). He was named rookie of the year in his team’s division.

Prior to playing at the junior level, McNarland played U18 AAA hockey with the Saskatoon Contacts in 2018/2019, recording seven goals and 28 assists in 44 games. In 2017/2018, he averaged nearly three points per game playing with U15 AA Saskatoon Generals, putting up 24 goals and 41 assists for 65 points in 23 regular season games.

The 18-year-old is originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Bonkowski played the 2020/2021 season with Powell River and led all rookies on the team in scoring with three goals and 13 assists in 20 games.

Kings first game of the 2021/2022 season is scheduled for Friday, October 8, at Hap Parker Arena against Nanaimo Clippers.
