Powell River U15 Kings advance to provincial final

Gold medal game will be livestreamed starting at 5 pm today

Jaxon Peters scored the winning goal with 10:51 remaining in the third period to secure a win for Powell River U15 Kings over Dawson Creek, and a spot in the gold medal final at the 2023 BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships in Port Alberni.

Powell River battled back from one goal deficits on three occasions, including being down 3-2 after two periods. Kai Nouwens knotted the score at three goals apiece three minutes and nine seconds into the final frame, setting the stage for the heroics from Peters.

Paxton Schreiber scored the first two goals for the Kings, tying the score both times, at 1-1 in the period and 2-2 in the second. Tristan Hawkins, Nouwens, Nathan Gruntman, Schreiber and Trentyn Takeda were credited with assists. Rowan Jones backstopped his team in the 4-3 victory.

Mission also advanced to the final with a 7-4 win over New Westminster. The gold medal game begins at 5 pm today (March 22) and will be broadcast live at livestream.com/islandsports.
