UPDATED: Powell River U18 Kings defeat Juan de Fuca, fall to Oceanside

Hockey club builds lead and holds on for win in first game of road trip, comeback falls short in game two

Powell River U18 Kings skated to a 5-3 win over Juan de Fuca at Victor Kraatz Arena in Parksville on Saturday, September 17.

Liam Carroll led the way in the team’s first of two games on the day, scoring on a first period power play and providing an insurance marker in period three.

Noah Culos scored with 3.7 seconds left in the first period to put the Kings up by two after 20 minutes, then Jeremy Pukesh (power play) and Braedyn Louie doubled the lead to 4-0 in the second period with a goal each.

Juan de Fuca rallied with a trio of goals in the third period, but Louie’s marker held up as the winner.

In their second game of the day, Powell River came up short in a 3-2 loss to Oceanside.

Carroll scored two second-period goals for the Kings, who trailed 3-0 after 20 minutes. Dreydan Harries set up the first goal while the second was unassisted.

There was no scoring in period three, despite a late push by the Kings with their goalie pulled for an extra attacker.

Powell River's game against Cowichan on Sunday, September 18, has been cancelled due to injuries to Kings' players that have reduced the number of skaters available to nine. Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association was consulted on the decision and agreed that player safety was paramount.
