Powell River Kings hosted Victoria Grizzlies for the second time in 24 hours on Saturday, March 4, and jumped out to an early lead.

Adam Mendelson and Rydor Ringor scored first period goals, then Ringor combined with Jack Blanchett to set up Casey Aman, who gave the home team a 3-0 lead on a power play with just under five minutes remaining in period two.

Kings could not sustain the lead, however, as the visitors stormed back with four unanswered goals.

Grizzlies broke Kyle Metson’s shutout bid just over a minute after Aman’s goal, added two more goals in the third period, plus the overtime winner to earn a split of the weekend series.

Metson made 43 saves overall, while his Victoria counterpart Oliver Auyeung-Ashton stopped 32 shots.

Ringor was named the game’s first star ahead of Mendelson and Auyeung-Ashton. Attendance was 679.

Powell River defeated Victoria by the same 4-3 score on March 3.

Kings travel to Vancouver Island this weekend for BC Hockey League (BCHL) games in Nanaimo (March 10) and Port Alberni (March 11).
