Pink Shirt Day is a great strategy for highlighting the troubling issue of bullying, but, as Peak reporter David Brindle pointed out in last week’s Peak Weekender, pink shirts will not fix the problem.

In regard to last issue’s article [“Fire chief defends 2017 budget,” February 15], I completely concur with City of Powell River councillor Rob Southcott.

Community debate over whether City of Powell River council should give itself a raise is sure to be heated; the concept of public servants paying themselves more is never met with blanket taxpayer approval, for reasons that are often unclear.

The issue of food quality in Powell River’s hospital and seniors’ homes has not gone away.

If one thing became clear this week, it was that Powell River was not prepared for the amount of snow that fell since the onslaught of what some residents are now jokingly referring to as Snow-maggedon or Snow-pocalypse 2017.

Peoples’ choice I appreciated the neutral reporting [“Visit brings out protesters,” February 1] about Christy Clark’s visit to Powell River and the interview by Jason Schreurs [“20 minutes with Christy Clark,” February 1].

City staff and council have started 2017 budget deliberations. Water, sewer and solid-waste collection are core services that have been presented to council, part of the 2017 budget deliberations.
