One of the ways to measure the health of a community is to gather statistics about the obvious factors: health, education, poverty, employment, civic engagement and food production.

They had to pick a Tuesday for the election, didn’t they? Since Tuesday is our press day at the Peak, we did not have provincial election results in time for publication of today’s paper. Instead, we ran them on prpeak.com.

I just read about our nice tax increase [“Committee recommends tax increase,” May 3] and my first thought was: wow.

Full disclosure: I’ve only voted a few times in my life, usually when I knew someone running in the election, or if there was a particular issue that was near and dear to me at the municipal level.

Plan requires clarity I have previously commented on the lack of detail/planning/organization for the proposed Powell River tech hub project.

It was clear that the more than 200 people who gathered in Evergreen Theatre for the provincial election all-candidates forum were there to hear how our next MLA will represent the interests of this community, not listen to party platform statements.
