August 7; Westview Terminal
At 8:07 am, Powell River RCMP responded to a 911 call of a possible impaired driver on the ferry from Texada Island coming to Powell River. The Ford Mustang had been observed “all over the road” and a witness who spoke with the male driver on the ferry described him as “out of it.” Police located the vehicle as it departed the ferry. The driver was described as having slow speech and a strong smell of liquor on his breath. He provided roadside breath samples and failed. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days and an immediate roadside prohibition was issued.

A police officer on patrol noted smoke coming from a property and stopped to investigate a potential structure fire. The officer located an individual on the property who was conducting a backyard burn of yard waste. The individual was issued a $1,150 violation ticket for failure to comply with a fire restriction under Section 10(4) of the Wildfire Act.

August 7; Marine Avenue
At 10:40 pm, a police officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle for speeding. The driver exhibited slurred speech and red bloodshot eyes, as well as a smell of liquor on the breath. The driver provided roadside breath samples and failed.  The class seven driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle has been impounded for 30 days.

August 9; Jasper Street
A bike was found and turned into the RCMP detachment. Police are seeking the owner of the bike to contact the detachment for its return. The owner will need to provide a description matching the bike turned in.

August 9; Highway 101
At 4:15 pm, RCMP responded to the Wildwood Bridge as witnesses observed a pool of blood under the bridge. Police responded to the area and requested a police dog and Powell River Search and Rescue.
The police boat was deployed to search the shoreline in partnership with search and rescue. Police and search and rescue were on scene until dark, hoping to find the individual who had appeared to be injured with blood loss.
On the morning of August 10, an off-duty officer reported that he had checked on a male who had been camping in the area a few days before, and had injured himself filleting a fish at that exact location. The male was located and identified personal belongings located in the area around the blood.
