Police Patrol: Powell River RCMP report

Incidents and occurrences in the last week include a fail to remain at the scene of a hit and run; an intoxicated cyclist; and a two-car collision south of town

Powell River RCMP reported the following for August 12 to 18, 2021.

Total calls for service: 119
Thefts: 11
Assaults: 4
Impaired driving: 3
Mischief: 4

August 12; Marine Avenue
At approximately 7:25 pm, Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run at the Willingdon Beach Campground. The caller advised that she was loading items into the back of her car when she was struck by another vehicle backing up. The driver of the vehicle stopped and briefly interacted with the victim before leaving the scene. The victim obtained a photo of the licence plate which was on a silver PT Cruiser. The victim was not hurt. Police are reminding drivers that it is their duty to stop, render assistance and provide their name if involved in a motor vehicle collision. Not doing so is an offence and can result in a fine of between $196 and $368, depending on the circumstances. The investigation into this matter is continuing. 

August 15; Barnet Street, 7000 block
At approximately 1:45 am, BC Ambulance requested assistance with a heavily intoxicated male on a bicycle. When the officer located the male he was having an extremely hard time balancing his bike and was slurring his words. The 41-year-old male from Powell River was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and was lodged in cells until he was sober. 

August 18; Brew Bay Road
At 2:50 pm, an officer on patrol came across a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Brew Bay Road. Witnesses advised that a Chrysler Neon was stopped waiting to make a left hand turn off of the highway when it was rear-ended by a northbound Ford F350. The female driver of the Neon was transported to the hospital with undetermined injuries. The driver and passenger of the truck were examined at the scene and released. The driver of the truck, a 17-year-old male from Powell River, was issued a violation ticket for driving without consideration. Both vehicles suffered significant damage and were towed from the scene.
