Powell River RCMP members are investigating a hit and run incident that occurred in Cranberry.

According to a media release from Powell River RCMP, on June 19, at approximately 7:44 am, police were called to assist BC Ambulance at the intersection of Cranberry Street and Tatlow Street for a motor vehicle hit and run incident involving a pedestrian. The release stated a description of the vehicle was provided.

“On arrival, police located the lone female pedestrian suffering from multiple injuries,” the release stated. “The female was taken to Powell River General Hospital and was later released in stable condition.

“Police located the suspect vehicle and spoke to the 29-year-old male driver. The driver was arrested for failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm.”

The release stated that a standardized field sobriety test was conducted and as a result, the driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, issued a driving prohibition and his vehicle was seized. The driver was released and will appear in Powell River Provincial Court on September 7, according to the release.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the integrated forensic identification section, according to RCMP.
