Jacob Bonkowski and Owen Barrow scored for Powell River Kings in a lopsided loss to Coquitlam Express on May 3 in Burnaby, but the two goals were not nearly enough to match an offensive outburst by their opponents.

Coquitlam outshot Powell River 19-2 in the first period, scoring twice, including the eventual game-winning goal 11 seconds prior to intermission.

The Express added three more goals in period two, and another trio in the third for an 8-2 win, their third victory over the Kings in nine games this season.

Ethan Riesterer and Nolan Krogfoss set up Bonkowski’s second-period goal. Keagen Abbott assisted on Barrow’s marker with just 17 seconds remaining in the game.

Shots overall favoured Coquitlam by a 42-20 margin.

Powell River has three games remaining in the shortened BC Hockey League season, including two against Burnaby-pod-leading Surrey Eagles on May 3 (7:30 pm) and May 5 (7 pm) and a final matchup against the Express on May 6 (1 pm).
