Cowichan edges Powell River Kings in high-scoring BCHL game

Capitals built a four-goal lead through 40 minutes then withstood comeback effort

Powell River Kings' forward Anthony Yu scored twice and added a pair of assists in his team's loss to Cowichan Valley last weekend.

Less than 24 hours after a lopsided loss in Victoria, Powell River Kings faced Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan on January 7 to complete a road trip to Vancouver Island.

Kings' captain Anthony Lucarelli scored for the second time is as many nights in a high-scoring affair which saw the hosts jump out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Anthony Yu, with two, Simone Dadiè and Theodore Jette also scored for the Kings, whose third-period rally from a 5-1 deficit fell just short.

Yu also set up a pair of goals for a four-point night, earning third star honours behind Cowichan’s Andrej Kovacevic and Luke Lavery, who recorded three points each. Lucarelli and Dadiè were each credited with two helpers in the 6-5 loss, while Christan Maro, Alex Bosland and Adam Mendelson each picked up one assist for the visitors.

Owen Crudale made 35 saves for the Kings, who were outshot 41-36. Attendance at Cowichan Community Centre was 1,209.

The next home games are January 12 and 13 against Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Puck drop is at 7 pm both nights.
