Powell River Kings hosted Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday, March 15, in the first of two games between the BC Hockey League (BCHL) clubs this weekend with massive playoff implications. At puck drop, Capitals held a four point lead over the Kings for the final playoff spot in the BCHL Coastal Conference.

After the visitors scored the only goal of the first period, Ryan Arnold responded with a goal for the Kings 27 seconds into period two, with assists going to Simone Dadiè and Kristians Samitis. Capitals took another lead three minutes later but the home team bounced back again, tying the game with a power play goal by Thomas Belzil before Dadiè's game winner, which came 20 seconds before intermission.

Zander Stewart assisted on both goals. Christian Maro and Samitis picked up secondary helpers. There was no scoring in the third period. Vincent Lamberti made 36 saves for the Kings, who were outshot 36 to 29.

Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 925. The teams meet again today (March 16) in Powell River at 5 pm, and again in Duncan on Friday, March 22.
