Powell River Minor Hockey teams continue playoff push

U15 and U13 clubs pursue berths in provincial championships

Powell River U15 Kings moved within a game of claiming the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association Tier 3 title by defeating North Island (Tri-Port) Eagles on Saturday, February 25.

Beau Jameson Gagne recorded a hat-trick for the victorious home team at Hap Parker Arena, leading the way in an 8-2 win. Connal Miller had a pair of goals for the U15 squad, which dominated the scoreboard in periods two and three after the teams scored two goals apiece in the opening frame.

Paxton Schreiber, Eugene Souch and Hunter Bessette rounded out the scoring for the Kings, who travel to Port Hardy for game two of the best-of-three series on Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5 (if necessary). The winner advances to the provincials in Port Alberni next month.

Powell River Minor Hockey’s U13 team is also in the midst of playoff action.

Lucas Gruntman found the back of the net on four occasions for the visiting U13 Kings at Alberni Valley Multiplex on February 25. Kesler Brown had a pair of goals in the 11-5 win, while Gabriel Caldarone, Carson Laing, Reid Stekman, Blake Peters and James Barrows scored one goal each.

U13s will face Alberni Valley at home on Saturday, March 4. Game time is 1:15 pm.
