Powell River U13 Kings win bronze at provincial championships

Minor hockey team reaches podium with win over Arbutus

Powell River U13 Kings reached the podium at the BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships on Thursday, March 23, skating to a 7-2 win over Arbutus Club (Vancouver).

Arbutus scored the only goal of the first period, but Powell River took over after intermission, scoring three times in the second period and adding four more in the third to claim the bronze medal.

After Kooper Kozmeniuk tied the game 1-1 and Lucas Vizzutti put the Kings ahead, Lucas Gruntman scored three straight goals, one late in the second period and two in the third, for a natural hat-trick. Marin Carlos and Kesler Brown rounded out the scoring.

Goals were set up by Gruntman, Vizzutti, Kozmeniuk (two), James Barrows, Reid Stekman, Grayden Kendrick and Cooper Lawry (two).

Ryder Sherris earned the win in goal for his team, which outshot Arbutus 42-25.

South Okanagan and West Vancouver are playing in the gold medal game today.

Powell River U15 Kings are also bringing home hardware, having won silver at their provincial tournament in Port Alberni.
