Powell River U15 Kings fall to Mission in provincial final

Hockey club will bring home silver medals after podium finish in Port Alberni

Powell River U15 Kings will settle for silver at the 2023 BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships.

After advancing to the final with a 4-3 semi-final win over Dawson Creek earlier in the day, Powell River came up short in the championship game, falling 7-3 to Mission Stars on Wednesday, March 22.

Eugene Souch, Carter Stekman and Hunter Bessette scored for the Kings, who trailed 3-1 after the first period and 7-1 at the second intermission. Souch’s first period goal, set up by Stekman, came on a power play. Third period goals by Stekman (assisted by Souch) and Bessette (unassisted) were both scored while the Kings were killing penalties.

Four of Mission’s seven goals were scored on power plays.

Powell River finished the tournament with a record of four wins and two losses.
