South Okanagan edges Powell River U13 Kings in BC semi-final

Minor hockey team will play for bronze medal tomorrow morning

Lucas Gruntman scored the lone goal for Powell River U13 Kings in a semi-final loss to South Okanagan at the BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships in West Vancouver on Wednesday, March 22.

Kings held the lead at the end of the first period but were unable to add another goal despite sending 23 shots at the opposing goaltender. James Barrows assisted on the Gruntman goal.

South Okanagan finally solved Kings’ goalie Nick Burge 3:43 into the second period, then added the eventual game winning goal 1:15 before intermission. The insurance marker came with 12:46 remaining in the third period.

Burge stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced overall.

Powell River will play for bronze at 8 am on Thursday, March 23, against the loser of the other semi-final between the host club from West Vancouver and Arbutus (Vancouver).
