Powell River U18 Kings’ goaltender Leo Brosseau stretches to face one of the 26 shots sent his way by Juan de Fuca Grizzlies' players on January 8.

Reece Deeble scored once and helped set up Powell River U18 Kings’ only other goal in a 2-2 tie with Juan de Fuca Grizzlies at Westhills Arena in Langford on Sunday, January 8.

After Powell River fell behind 1-0 in a penalty-filled second period, Deeble combined with defence partner Quinn Carlson to set up Tristan Peake, who slapped a rebound past the Grizzlies’ goalie from inside the crease just over a minute later.

Juan de Fuca took another lead with 6:59 remaining in period three, but the Kings bounced back again. Ben Belyea and Tyler Durant assisted on Deeble’s point shot, which found its way through a crowd of players in front of the Grizzlies' goal and into the top corner of the net.

Leo Brosseau turned aside 24 of the 26 shots he faced, including a barrage during a goal-mouth scramble in the final seconds of the game. His teammates compiled a total 33 shots at the other end of the ice.

Twenty-four hours earlier, U18 Kings were shut out in Nanaimo.

Powell River plays its next game at home on Sunday, January 22, against Oceanside. Game time is 1:15 pm.
