According to the latest update from Elections BC, 8,338 voters in Powell River-Sunshine Coast have requested mail-in ballots – a significant increase over the 114 people who voted by mail in the riding in 2017.

Liberal candidate Sandra Stoddart-Hansen is a consultant with a long history in the public and private sectors. She also recently completed a term on the BC Ferry Authority board of directors and has been active as a community volunteer.

NDP incumbent Nicholas Simons, 55, has lived in the riding for the past 30 years – 19 of them on the lower Sunshine Coast and 11 in the Powell River area.

Green candidate Kim Darwin, 51, is making her second run for MLA, after finishing third in 2017 and coming within 100 votes of the Liberal candidate.

School District 47 chairperson Aaron Reid outlined several themes in her remarks to the Powell River Board of Education on October 14.
